What a time to be alive
I mean. The title says it all doesn't it?
I don't know about you guys but over at TANAKA we are freaking burnt. out. We are exhausted. We are kind of just going through the motions. Does that resonate for anyone else?
I've been thinking a lot lately about how we literally have just lived through year and a half of trauma, loss, isolation and global insanity to be honest. We've experienced a bigger loss of control over our lives than probably ever before for most of us. We watched millions of people around the world die, in many cases due to massive policy failure and the unending reliance we have on capitalism. Even when we hated it we all got used to doing less, to having less, needing less. And now we're meant to be "free" and frankly my body is confused and pumping the breaks.
Where is the time to process any of that? How are we meant to continue on with business as usual? Going into the office while cases continue to rage and there have been more cases in 2021 than in 2020? We've all rushed to pack our social calendars before another potential lockdown without having any chance to mentally or physically get used to being as busy as we used to be.
I mean. Honestly it's not surprising that we're burnt out. It would strike me as stranger if you weren't feeling some type of way.
I'm gonna be honest, I don't know what the solution is. The world isn't slowing down any time soon, and if it does it will probably be another hellish lockdown. Work isn't stopping, capitalism isn't ending, socialising isn't becoming any less appealing. All I know is we're moving along rapidly and all I can think is STOP THE RIDE I WANNA GET OFF.
So that's kind of the theme for the month. We're honoring wanting to stop the ride and get the hell off for a bit. We're embracing the fact that we are burnt the hell out and have no idea how to reset that. August is the month that we just accept that this is an absolutely wild time to be alive.
We'd love to hear your thoughts on all of this, maybe you can let us know how you're feeling? Feel free to reply to this email, or DM/comment on our instagram. Maybe we'll share some of your thoughts (anonymously of course). I think it helps to know we're all feeling it.
